When you first connect your accounting software to Finoya, the platform runs an initial sync to import your complete transaction history. This is a one-time process that takes longer than the regular weekly sync.
How long should the initial sync take?
For most businesses, the initial sync completes within one hour. However, the actual time depends on how much historical data your accounting software holds.
Business history | Expected sync time |
Less than 1 year of data | Usually under 30 minutes |
1 to 3 years of data | 30 minutes to 1 hour |
3 to 5 years of data | 1 to 2 hours |
More than 5 years of data | Up to 3 hours in some cases |
Businesses with a very high volume of transactions per month may take longer even within the same year range. A retail business processing hundreds of transactions daily will take longer to sync than a professional services firm with a dozen invoices per month.
Do not disconnect and reconnect your accounting software if the dashboard looks empty. Disconnecting during an active sync will interrupt it and restart the process from the beginning.
Tip Leave the sync running. Log out of Finoya and come back in an hour or two. The data will be there when you return. Repeatedly refreshing or checking will not speed up the process. |
How to tell if the sync is genuinely stuck
A sync is likely stuck rather than just slow if:
• More than four hours have passed since you connected and the dashboard is still showing all zeros
• You are seeing an error message or a warning banner rather than a loading state
If the sync appears genuinely stuck rather than slow, contact support. Do not disconnect and reconnect without speaking to support first, as this can create duplicate connection records that complicate the fix.
Common causes of a stuck initial sync
• The authorisation was completed but the connection was not fully established before the browser closed
• Your accounting software account has restricted API access, which prevents Finoya from pulling historical data
• The accounting platform itself experienced a service interruption during the sync window
• Your accounting software holds an unusually large data set that exceeded the standard sync timeout
When you contact support about a stuck sync, tell them your accounting platform name, the approximate time you connected, and what the Sync On date shows in your top bar. This helps the team check the sync status on the back end.
