Connecting your accounting software

Updated over a month ago

How the connection works

Finoya connects to your accounting software through a secure and encrypted integration. The connection process is entirely browser-based and takes approximately two minutes. You do not need a developer or any technical knowledge to complete it.

The connection is read-only. Finoya can see your financial data but cannot create, modify, or delete anything in your accounting software. Your accounting records remain exactly as they are.

Once connected, Finoya automatically syncs your data every week. You can see the date of your last sync and the next scheduled sync in the top bar of your dashboard at all times.

Supported accounting platforms

Finoya supports a wide range of accounting platforms. When you reach the connection screen, you can search for your platform by name. Currently supported platforms include, but are not limited to:

• QuickBooks Online

• Xero

• Zoho Books

• Sage Cloud Accounting

• Tally

• MYOB

• FreshBooks

If you cannot find your platform in the list, contact our support team via the chat icon in the bottom right of your screen.

Step-by-step connection guide

Step 1: Access the connection screen

If you are signing up for the first time, the connection screen appears automatically after you create your account. Finoya cannot show you any financial data until this step is completed, so you are prompted to do it immediately.

If you have already signed up but need to connect or reconnect your accounting software please ask support for help.

Step 2: Select your accounting platform

A screen appears with a searchable list of all supported accounting platforms. Type the name of your platform in the search bar, or scroll through the list to find it. Click on your platform to select it, then click Continue.

Step 3: Enter your company name

You are asked to enter your company name. This is the name that will appear in your Finoya dashboard and in your accountant's client list if your account is linked to an accountant. Type it in and click Continue.

Step 4: Log in and authorise

You are redirected to your accounting platform's own login page. This is the same page you use every time you log in to that platform. Enter your usual credentials.

After logging in, your accounting platform will ask you to confirm that you want to grant Finoya access to your data. Review the permissions shown and click Authorise or Allow. The exact wording depends on the platform.

You are then automatically redirected back to Finoya.

Important

Make sure you are logged in to the correct company file in your accounting software before authorising. If you manage multiple companies in QuickBooks or Xero, you may be asked to select which one to connect. Select the company whose data you want to see in Finoya.

Step 5: The initial sync begins

As soon as the authorisation is complete, Finoya begins pulling your full transaction history. A confirmation screen will appear confirming the connection was successful.

The initial sync takes approximately one hour. The sync runs in the background and you can close the browser if needed. Once the sync is complete, every section of your dashboard will be populated with your data.

What data does Finoya access?

Finoya reads the financial data necessary to power your dashboard and Noya AI. This includes:

• Invoices and accounts receivable

• Bills and accounts payable

• Bank account balances

• Profit and loss data including revenue, cost of goods sold, and expenses

• Cash flow transactions

• Sales data by product or service category

Finoya does not access personal data about your customers beyond what is needed to display invoice information, and it does not read payroll details or tax lodgements.

After the sync completes

Once the initial sync finishes, the top bar of your dashboard shows today's date as the Last Sync date, and the following week's date as the Next Sync date. This tells you exactly how current your data is at any point in time.

Subsequent weekly syncs happen automatically. You do not need to do anything to trigger them.

Troubleshooting connection issues

The connection screen is taking a long time to load

If the list of accounting platforms is slow to appear, try refreshing the page. If the problem persists, check your internet connection and try a different browser.

I was redirected back to Finoya but the connection did not complete

This can happen if the authorisation window timed out or was closed before you approved access. Go to your account settings and try the connection again. Make sure to complete the full authorisation before closing any browser windows.

I connected to the wrong company file

If you authorised the wrong company in your accounting software, contact support through the chat icon in your dashboard. Our team can disconnect the incorrect connection so you can start the process again with the correct company.

My accounting platform is not in the list

Contact support and let us know which platform you use. We will advise whether it is on our roadmap and suggest the best path forward in the meantime.

The dashboard is still empty after more than two hours

If more than two hours have passed since you connected and your dashboard is still showing blank data, check your accounting software to confirm there are actual transactions recorded. Some newly created accounting files with no transaction history will result in an empty dashboard because there is no data to sync.

If you do have transactions and the dashboard is still blank after two hours, contact support with the name of your accounting platform and the time you completed the connection.
